Ibrahim Maalouf ~ Kalthoum

For all of you that love traditional jazz, you’ll love this album. Kalthoum is a celebration of women who overturned the course of history, women whose artistic influence has had an impact that reaches all the way down to our lives today. There are 7 songs on this album, which are in parts. On this CD with Ibrahim on trumpet, are Mark Turner on Saxophone, Frank Woeste on piano, Larry Grenadier on double bass & Clarence Penn on drums.

The last album that Ibrahim did, was a tribute to Miles Davis. This album is a tribute to a singer named Oum Kalthoum, whose voice captured the heart of Ibrahim at an early age. Taking her songs which were vocal & putting them into an instrumental song, nothing gets lost in this transition. You can hear the enthusiasm in the music as they take a song written back in 1969 that was an hour long, shortened it up a bit, added some improvisation & turned out this great work.  This album gets a 5 out of 5 Music Guru Stars.
